Beneath the Camouflage Tree is a two-hander set in WW1, with characters inspired by a composite of real historical figures. The characters are 'women-soldiers' – people assigned female at birth who cross-dress as men in order to enlist in military combat. Their motivations are different, and through their relationship we explore the nuance of gender, grief, and finding home. Through these stories, the play builds new cultural heritage for groups often omitted from Western recorded history.
